November 2nd, 2004 Update

Since moving to Arizona, I have been doing a few projects around our new place. The south-facing front wall has two 8' windows, side by side, that face the street. Both for privacy and sunlight control, I built and installed these sliding Japanese-style shoji screens. Each opening has four 2' x 4' screens, and they slide back, out of the way, for daytime use. The screens are mahogany, with wenge sticking, and Japanese rice paper. The total span is 25'. I constructed the track and supports of the same material, and the pulls and catches are made of wenge and brass. The screens ride on adjustable ball bearing rollers.
